We know that they both are amazing skin treatments that have provided amazing results to many individuals, but what gets confusing is knowing what treatment is best suited for you and your skin concerns.

First, let us take a look at each treatment individually, that way you will be able to have a better idea of each treatment’s focus helping you identify if this treatment matches your skin concern. It is best to be consulted by a skin and laser specialist to assess your concerns and your skin condition and guide you in the right direction.

What is BBL®HERO?

BBL®HERO is a laser treatment, we use laser technology to stimulate your collagen production while reducing redness, sun damage, and general pigmentation.

BroadBand Light referred to as BBL®HERO, is a controlled frequency of visible and infrared high-intensity light that sends heat to the skin, this heat causes your current collagen to tighten and slightly firms the skin immediately while stimulating your skin cells to produce new and healthy cells as well as collagen.

BBL®HERO has been studied for its ability to improve the appearance of the skin and encourages the growth of new healthy cells for a more youthful overall look and feel. The stimulated cells go into overdrive as they react to the controlled trauma. The “damage” signals the body to remove damaged cells and build new ones.

BBL®HERO enables us to treat multiple skin conditions with various wavelengths seamlessly using “change-on-the-fly” Smart Filters.

These filters are used to treat various conditions such as:

  • Acne, as this wavelength destroys bacteria
  • Pigmented Lesions, such as freckles & age spots, not the best treatment for melasma.
unnamed
  • Vascular Lesions, such as cherry angiomas, telangiectasias, red scars/ stretch marks, and rosacea.
  • Deeper Lesions / Darker Skin Types
  • Hair Removal depending on the skin type we would choose your safe filter.
  • SkinTyte™ is available as a module using infrared light energy to deeply heat dermal collagen leading to a renewed collagen foundation for skin firming.

What is Dermapen?

Dermapen is a micro-needling device, the concept of skin needling is based on the skin’s ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, abrasions, and other physical trauma. Skin needling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin which triggers a cascade of events that result in new collagen synthesis through your body’s natural wound healing response. The use of concern-targeted serums is penetrated deeper & quicker into the skin, by the micro “injuries” that are created, thus treating pigmentation and melasma.

The result is smoother texture, firmer skin, leaving you with younger-looking skin down the line. This is a great treatment for all skin types especially patients with acne scarring, NOT ACTIVE ACNE or breakouts, enlarged pores can be reduced with time, and fine to moderate wrinkles too.

Dermapen treats the following skin conditions:

  • Fine Lines to moderate wrinkles
  • Acne scarring
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks
  • Pigmentation including melasma
  • General rejuvenation

Dermapen is great for texture, fine lines, scars, stretch marks, and collagen induction, with the use of specialized serums they target other concerns like melasma and dehydration. Whereas BBL®HERO therapy involves the use of BBL®HERO laser technology to treat the appearance of redness, discoloration, fine wrinkles, age and sunspots, and small blood vessels as well as active acne.

There you have it, I hope this helps you when you are looking at what the difference is between having a BBL®HERO treatment and a Dermapen or more commonly known as a micro-needling treatment. As I always say, it is always best to be consulted by a skin and laser specialist to assess your concerns and your skin condition to recommend the best and safest treatment for you!
