WHAT ARE WARTS?
Warts are harmless, benign lesions that can be contagious growths on the skin or mucous membranes. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), with over 100 types of HPV have been identified over the years. These lesions appear on the top layers of the skin. The roots or branches are not visible on the surface however embed themselves in the skin.
Common warts are found in areas that are frequently injured, such as fingers, toes, feet, knees and even in the face.
Warts are more commonly found in children and people with a low immune system. There are many different types of warts, although warts generally aren’t dangerous, they are ugly, potentially embarrassing, and can be contagious and painful.

HOW TO GET RID OF WARTS:
At Atlantic Dermatology and Laser we use laser therapy – to be precise it is Long Pulsed Nd: YAG laser. This Laser technology has less risk of scarring, and a quicker, more successful long term result as the roots of the wart are generally destroyed within one to three sessions depending on the longevity of the wart as well as the size.
