NON-SURGICAL SKIN CANCER TREATMENTS
It is unfortunate that along with our beautiful sunshine in South Africa, comes a heavy UV burden. Most commonly, our patients don’t present with just one pre-malignancy (an actinic keratosis) but several. Most patients don’t just have one skin malignancy removed but require treatment of new lesions at each follow-up consultation. As actinic keratoses have a 1% risk of developing into skin cancers each year, they need to be treated and it goes without saying that any skin cancer is prioritized!
While the most common method of removing skin pre-malignancies and skin malignancies remains liquid nitrogen therapy and surgery respectively, the risk of leaving behind white marks and unsightly scarring is possible even in the best hands. This has led to the development of alternatives in treating these lesions which as a rule have better cosmetic results while being equally effective.
