As you age, your skin loses some of its elasticity, and unfortunately, your collagen production decreases year after year. There are many factors that age the skin, environmental factors, like sun exposure, as well as genetics play a role in how early wrinkles and fine lines will start to appear on a person’s face. Diet and lifestyle cannot be forgotten, just as your computer needs a battery to be powered, our body and skin need nutrients to function optimally.

The skin around your eyes is an area that’s likely to show earlier signs of aging because the skin under your eye is a lot thinner allowing the blood vessels to be more noticeable. This area is more difficult to treat as your lifestyle, diet, and sleep generally slow the treatment progress down, never mind the older the damage is the more difficult it is to treat, and there are also the hereditary factors that may lead to this area needing constant assistance!

Having lines under your eyes is a normal part of getting older. If these lines make you feel self-conscious, you can address them through several preventive methods and home remedies such as a quality eye serum and or cream.

“How would you fix my fine line?”

I strongly believe in the power of combining treatments!

I have 12 years of experience working with multiple skin types, skin conditions, and a large variety of treatments including lasers, peels, micro-needling, carboxy, and many more. I have found that combining treatments allows for an overall improvement in the skin, as well as a quicker response and result!

Getting rid of fine lines

There are many treatments available, however, I will be focusing on my favorite combination of treatments to correct your fine lines! Please bear in mind that every skin is different, “one size fits all” DOES NOT apply, an assessment is always needed to guide each person in the right direction for optimal results. The combination of treatments is determined by the skin’s condition, strength, and age.

Chemical & fruit acid peels

Peels can be applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and promote new cell growth. These can’t treat very deep wrinkles or tighten sagging skin, however, they are able to reduce the appearance of fine lines depending on how old and severe those lines are. So, for me, personally, this is more for prevention, maintenance and for those patients that are young and have just started to develop fine lines!

Microneedling

Microneedling is an increasingly popular treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines. During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create microscopic holes in the skin, allowing the treatment serum to be absorbed quicker. As the skin heals, collagen is stimulated, improving fine lines, and the texture of the skin.

Carboxytherapy

Carboxytherapy is underestimated if you ask me, when performed correctly and regularly you see amazing results! This treatment is based on healing and increasing cell turnover. When we inject the medical graded carbon dioxide gas into the area, we create “controlled trauma”. What this does is confuse the brain by believing there is a wound needing healing, thus we improve the oxygen, and nutrient delivery to that area, and activate the cell and wound healing responses in the skin!

Lasers

Lasers are becoming increasingly popular as they treat most skin concerns including fine lines. Several types of laser treatments are available for this purpose. To stimulate collagen, tighten and improve your current collagen with no downtime, I love the SkinTyte modality of BBL laser. This uses light energy to heat up the skin at the right depth, causing your current collagen to strengthen its strands and immediately tighten slightly, however it focuses on stimulating new collagen to be produced!

Now, remember collagen takes approximately 90 – 130 days to produce and the more collagen you have, the more your body will be able to produce. Just like compound interest! SO invest in your collagen as it will invest in you!

There’s nothing wrong with getting some fine lines, however, leaving them to develop deep wrinkles may become or cause a problem later.  While skincare products, protection from UV rays, and a healthy lifestyle may make it possible to avoid fine lines or reduce their appearance, you might not be able to avoid them entirely. Make an appointment with an aesthetic doctor for your quick fix of botox, or contact your skin and laser specialist if you feel your fine lines are problematic.
