We are all chasing a flawless complexion. To add to our daily battle of breakouts and pigmentation, throwing enlarged pores into the mix seems so cruel! Pores are stubborn and can ruin the perfect complexion you are after. Not to stress, there are ways of treating them and improving their appearance. After using multiple creams claiming to minimize your pores you are probably feeling like this is pointless. But this is where we step in. At Atlantic Dermatology & Lase we are equipped with the latest technologies that can help you achieve the skin of your dreams.
First thing is first, your pores will never disappear completely. You need your pores, so make friends with them and treat them with kindness. If you have enlarged pores it’s usually linked to having an oily skin. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Oily skin ages a lot slower than Dry skin. Your skin journey always starts at home, so making sure that your skin is thoroughly cleansed, exfoliated at least twice a week and sufficiently moisturized is the first step in treating large pores. Never try to pick or squeeze at your skin while at home, leave that to us professionals.
This will already give the skin a healthier glow. Once you have achieved this we are here to help you with a few in house treatments too.
Nano Laser Peel is a fantastic place to begin. Nano Laser Peel vapourizers, tightens and tones the skin. You will have about a week’s worth of peeling after this treatment so plan it around your schedule accordingly. Nano Laser peel is great for the texture of the skin and can focus on specific areas that are prone to enlarged pores like your nose and cheeks. This treatment is best done during winter as you need to be careful with sun exposure before and after.
BBL Laser is also effective in minimizing the appearance of pores. With BBL we can target different wavelengths that hit various depths of the skin. Focusing on the sebaceous gland with a superficial wavelength can have antibacterial effects on the skin that can shrink the appearance of the oil duct. This also helps with breakouts, so what a bonus. BBL is proven to improve the actual quality on the skin. So healthier skin is a lot less lightly to have the appearance of blocked and enlarged pores.
Mild chemical peels such as the Pumpkin Peel can also assist in clearing up congestion and regulating oil secretion. If you have less congestion and build up on the skin your pores will not look clogged and enlarged. Often patients come in saying they have a lot of blackheads and once taking a closer look we see that it is just enlarged pores.
Every so often we get one enlarged pore that looks like a small crater on the surface of your skin. No matter what you do, you cannot cover it up! We have the perfect solution for you, which is a Deep Laser Pen. This ablative laser allows us to buff down the skin around the enlarged pore, evening out the surface of the hole. With this treatment you will be left with a light scab that should fall off by itself after a week or two. These pores need to be treated more than once to achieve the desired effect however once the pore has shrunk down it is the most satisfying feeling!
Keeping the skin clean and healthy is the best way to treat enlarged pores. We wish there was a magic potion that you could apply to take them away forever. But treating your skin correctly is as close as it’s going to get!

Growing up in a household with 3 sisters definitely influenced my life in a feminine way. I always loved makeup and skincare, and I remember asking for facial products for Christmas as early as 9 years old. So I have always known that skin is my passion. This made entering the beauty industry a must for me.
After achieving my international qualifications in health and skincare and working at Spa in Cape Town for a few years, I wanted to combine this passion for skin with traveling so I decided to work aboard luxury brand cruise lines, such as Disney and Silverseas. I did this for the following 8 years.
Traveling the world while working in the industry with the latest technologies was an amazing learning opportunity and allowed for a lot of personal growth. I then stepped up into management to keep learning and challenging myself. However I knew that working on cruise ships would not be forever, and I wanted to start my own family. I decided that it was time to come home. I continued my studies once returning to Cape Town. This allowed me to reignite my love for performing the most advanced treatments the aesthetics industry has to offer as well as settle down and start a family.
