Looking at our amazing menu of skin treatments we offer here, it is very daunting not knowing which is best for you and with each treatment comes along with many questions! But never fear, we really do not mind answering these questions.
Here are a few of our frequently asked questions we get at Atlantic Dermatology and Laser:
What treatments are safe to do during summer?
BBL Forever Young, BBL Forever Clear, and Laser Hair Removal are summer-friendly laser treatments with precautions. Skintyte Laser is safe with no downtime, making it suitable even with a tan or before a summer vacation.
Most laser treatments require avoiding sun exposure for 4 weeks, but daily SPF, hats, and sun protection allow BBL laser. Wait for a tan to fade to prevent hyperpigmentation, as the laser may pick it up, causing uneven complexion. BBL laser doesn’t increase sun sensitivity; we aim to prevent additional sun damage post-treatment.
Mild peels like Pumpkin Peel are summer options, but avoid on tanned skin, and be cautious during healing. Save Nano laser peel and ablative lasers for winter, as they’re not ideal during summer months.

When can I carry on using my actives after a treatment?
Short answer is one week after your treatment.
After facial laser treatment or a peel, allow your skin a week to heal before introducing resurfacing or exfoliating actives like Vitamin A. You can continue using Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid as usual. If your skin is flakey and dry after a peel, it’s advisable to wait until the peeling has ceased before incorporating these ingredients.
Can I still do the treatment if I haven’t numbed/ is it very painful?
Many patients opt for treatments without numbing cream, depending on their pain tolerance. However, for a more manageable experience, we recommend applying numbing cream 30 minutes before the procedure. Pregnant or breastfeeding women often undergo treatments without numbing cream. If there’s a history of reaction to numbing cream, a test patch a few days before the procedure can assess the skin’s response.
The sensation during a BBL treatment is likened to laser hair removal, described as warm elastic bands flicking the skin. While treatments are quick, the age-old saying “Beauty is pain” applies, but it doesn’t have to be overly painful! 😄

How long until I see results?
The timeline for seeing results depends on your skin type and the specific treatment:
-
BBL Forever Young: Changes are noticeable within a week.
-
Skintyte Laser: Results develop gradually, with the main changes becoming apparent around 120 days after treatment.
-
BBL Forever Clear: The timeframe varies based on breakouts and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It’s important to understand that these treatments are part of a journey, and significant changes are typically observed after a series of sessions. We recommend at least 4 treatments before expecting noticeable differences.
What is the downtime for BBL?
BBL Forever Young treatment on the face may result in 5-7 days of darker pigmentation, often referred to as scabbing. Some redness and inflammation are normal, and you might experience a mild sunburn sensation on the day of the laser treatment. Healing for body areas takes longer.
It’s important to note that the first treatment tends to have the most scabbing. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to schedule a consultation with one of our laser specialists. They can assess your skin and provide more personalised information.
